Update on Kizmo, February 4, 2023

Well, Kizmo’s surgery appointment did not go to plan, but don’t worry, he’s doing well!

Upon arrival at in Dayton for the pre-surgery consultation, the vets there had serious reservations about his initial diagnosis, and felt strongly that a surgical intervention was not the appropriate course of action.  We authorized further testing, and while we still do not have a definitive diagnosis, it seems most likely that Kizmo has a congenital spinal defect, which will not be benefited by surgery.  Testing and veterinary services like these are expensive, and so far his bills total around $2,500.

So what about the extra money?  We’d like to use it for Kizmo's upcoming expenses, which will be considerable and include physical therapy and mobility assistance.  We’ll provide periodic updates on Gizmo's progress and our efforts to find him the best forever home.

Thanks to your generosity, we were able to do our due diligence for Kizmo, ruling out unnecessary surgery and enabling us to focus on the appropriate treatment and care for this outgoing, good natured guy that will give him the best quality of life possible.  The one consistent thing EVERYONE has said about Kizmo is that he is a sweetheart, and will make a great pet for the right pet owner, who we know is out there.

If there is money left over once Kizmo has been placed, we’d like to use that for out-of-the ordinary medical needs that occasionally arise in our shelter.  At this moment, for example, we have a big teddy bear of a pit bull named Nala who has torn both ACLs in her back legs and is looking at an extended recovery period.

We understand if you feel that this is not what you donated for, and if you feel strongly enough to request a refund we will grant it.  Please email admin@helptheanimalsinc.com with your name, address, and donation receipt.

Thanks again for support our shelter and for caring about little Kizmo!
